The Project was a replacement of the existing Mount Alverna Home with a new facility to be constructed on the existing Mount Alverna Home site and purchased adjacent property.
Portions of the previous facility were in poor condition with many functional issues, that were either difficult or impossible to resolve. After a study it was concluded that renovation of the facility was not financially feasible and the structure should be replaced. The present design includes a three floor 135 bed skilled nursing facility, a two floor 32 bed assisted living and a one floor 18 bed dementia care unit. This subdivision and organization of planning will allow residents of like abilities to be cared for and live with other residents of similar abilities. Common support spaces central to the facility are provided in a connective core to each wing. Each wing is organized into center support spaces with a dining room for each area and subdivided into family pods to provide for a residential setting for the residents to be cared for and reside. Resident rooms are generally organized around a parlor or living spaces to diminish the institutional effect. These spaces are provided with staff stations required by Code to permit spaces open to a corridor. A non-institutional style bathroom is provided in each pod for the use of residents requiring minimal assistance with bathing, while the overall wing includes a therapy style tub and roll-in shower for residents that require this type of accommodations.
